Knights Scorers: Sam(3), Jesse, Rammy, OG
“Knights, Knights, Knights”, roared among the starting eleven and that was the team’s mantra before kickoff. It is Northumberland Knights 1st night game for the past 3 years, led by hat-trick hero Sam, brilliantly and ruthlessly took Cuz FC(aka Eastland FC) apart with unopposed ease.
Cuz FC were more than a little shell-shocked after a scintillating opening from Knights storming a 3-nil lead courtesy of Jesse and Sam, but Cuz FC side weren’t about to be totally rolled over. Cuz FC confidence was on a high note once they get a goal back. The game was level before halftime as Banks have to picked the ball in the net 3 times.
The shocking comeback put the mood for Knights to start the 2nd period with a real sense of purpose and it didn’t take long before last year’s top scorer Rammy to put himself in the scoresheet. Cuz FC turned up the heat thereafter with a couple of close range efforts only to be denied by Knights debutant Ronald before manage to equalize with a long range freekick with 20 mins to go.
Knights swarm all over Cuz FC in the last 15mins and it was not long before they concede and own goal after unable to clear a low drive by Sam. Jowell could have made a dream debut goal but he was caught offside. Sam gave Knights a convincing win when he completed his hat trick 5 mins before time.
A good confidence boosting performance all around from Knights debutants (Donald, Jowell, Aliff, Fandi, Kai) bodes well for the year ahead.
